Seasons Change, So Should Your Skincare!

This guide to seasonal skincare routines will empower you to customise your skincare for a healthy, glowing complexion all year round.

Have you ever noticed your skin acting differently as the seasons change?
Drier in the winter? Oilier in the summer? You're not alone!
Our skin reacts to the changing environment, and our skincare routines need to adapt along with it.

Understanding The Need For Seasonal Skin Care

Here's a breakdown of some common seasonal concerns:

Hot and humid conditions can increase oil production, clog pores, cause breakouts, and dehydrate the skin.

Colder weather and strong winds often deplete skin's natural oils, leading to flaking, irritation, and sensitivities.

Increased sun exposure in the summer months is a major concern, leading to potential sun damage and premature ageing.

Factors like pollution and wind can irritate and damage the skin throughout the year.

How to Adapt Your Skincare to the Changing Seasons

By understanding these seasonal shifts, you can tweak your routine to address your skin's specific needs.
Here are some general seasonal skincare tips:

Autumn & Winter

Cleanse: Switch to a creamier cleanser to replenish lost moisture.

Moisturise: Use a richer moisturizer to provide deeper hydration and protect against the drying effects of cold weather. Consider using thicker creams or ointments at night for extra moisture.

Serums: Consider adding a hydrating serum packed with hyaluronic acid or ceramides to boost moisture levels.

Gentle Exfoliation: Exfoliate less frequently (once a week) to avoid irritation from dry, winter skin.

Spring

Cleanse: Stick to a gentle cleanser, but be mindful of any increased oiliness due to allergies.

Moisturise: A lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizer is ideal.

Treatments: If dealing with allergies, incorporate a calming and soothing product like a gentle toner or aloe vera gel.

SPF Increase: As the sun gets stronger, consider increasing your SPF to a minimum of SPF 30.

Exfoliation: You can resume your routine rich in AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) to repair skin damage or BHAs (beta hydroxy acids) to cleanse (1-2 times per week) to remove winter's dead skin cells.

Summer

Cleanse: Opt for lightweight, oil-free gel cleansers or micellar water to remove excess oil and sweat without stripping the skin's natural moisture.

Moisturise: To prevent sun damage, use a light, water-based moisturizer with an SPF 30 or higher.

Exfoliate: Regularly exfoliate to prevent clogged pores and promote cell turnover.

Sunscreen: Remember, sunscreen is essential every day, rain or shine! Apply liberally and reapply every two hours, or more often if sweating or swimming.

Customise Your Seasonal Skincare Routine

These are just general guidelines. Remember, everyone's skin is unique!
Pay attention to how your skin reacts to the changing seasons and adjust your application techniques accordingly.
For instance, you might need to layer more products in the winter or use less moisturizer in the summer.
