Which Comes First - Hair or Makeup?

    • 2 min read

Which do you do first - hair or makeup? You don’t have to be getting ready for a big event such as a wedding or formal evening to think about this question. The order of doing your hair or makeup might not be something you think about at all. Everyone has their own way of doing things, after all. However, you may find that you always end up with less-than-perfect makeup or you might find that you’re spending a lot of time on bothhair and makeup getting ready for work or when you’re heading out for a night out with friends.

Should You do Hair or Makeup First?

So, which comes first then - hair or makeup? As a general guideline, it’s best to do your hair first. There are a few reasons for this that we’ll cover soon. There are, of course, always a few exceptions to the rule.

    Do hair first…

As we said above, doing your hair first is usually the best option. The main reason for this is the heat factor. When youstyle your hair, you usually end up getting a lot of hot air near your face. That does not make the best base for makeup. You will likely be hot and sweaty. Unless you have time to wash your face, go through your moisturiser and serum routine then wait for your skin to cool, you will want to start without any sweat. Doing hair first ensures that you can add foundation, concealer, mascara and other products without any risk of anything running or melting. It will also reduce the chance of clogged pores that can trigger breakouts. Plus, your makeup will be perfect and fresh.

    Do makeup first…

There are a few times that you will want to do makeup first. If you’re going with second-day hair and you don’t need to style it, you can focus on makeup instead. The same applies to any styles that don’t require any heating or major effort. For updos, natural styles that simply need a bit of mousse or a quickspray and those days where you’re pressed for time and simply want to throw your hair into a quick bun, you can do your makeup first. You can also opt to do makeup first if you’re worried about messing up more complex styles.

We hope these tips help you perfect your look, whatever the occasion. You will find all the hair care products you need at Retail Box for gorgeous hair, whether you choose to do your hair or makeup first.
